A number of people who visit this blog will be interested as to why I chose to do my MBA through the Edinburgh Business School, so I decided to write a page explaining my decision.
To start of with, let me describe my scenario. I’m in London (UK) for a couple of months and will be moving back to South Africa later this year. I’m currently running my own startup company called LeaveBooker.
My decision to study an MBA was because it is something that will benefit my business escapades. I am an entrepreneur trying to establish a successful business and I believe it is pivotal to be skilled at managing and growing such a business.
Why specifically the EBS?
Once you have made the decision to do an MBA, the research starts into which school to do it through. I had the constraint that I’m starting it off in London and will then be moving to South Africa. As I really wanted to get it underway as soon as possible, this ruled out schools that required physical presence, and left me with the distance learning option.
There are a number of distance-learning MBAs, such as the the one through the Open University and University of Bradford. I investigated these two as options, but finally ended up choosing to do it through EBS.
My main reasons were as follows:
- EBS is has the world’s most flexible MBA
- There are two interim qualifications — after passing three modules, you get a Certificate in Business Administration. After passing six modules, you get a Diploma in Business Administration before getting your Master in Business Administration after nine modules. This is a useful “insurance” on the off-chance that I am unable to complete the course
- EBS is well respected
